57 Pirie Street

57 Pirie Street has been Carras & Co’s biggest undertaking yet and is one of the projects we are most proud of.

“57 Pirie Street is a treasured investment property which has been part of our family for over 45 years. We knew a renovation project was required in the foreseeable future and were looking for someone trusted to take on the project. It so happened that our son Peter created Carras & Co Limited at the same time and we were delighted to have given him this job which was close to all of our hearts.

57 Pirie Street is a beautiful Victorian character home which was built in the early 1900s. The home was later divided into two separate flats in 1945 by the previous owner and later became a dual rental property for us.

We went into the project with one vision and as the renovations began, we realised this was all about to quickly change. With over 100 years, the house had aged which meant that we were now facing a re-build while retaining the shell rather than a simple renovation. Being located in Mount Victoria, we were also challenged to retain all the historical and character aspects of the home while still trying to renovate with new age methods to ensure its future years. This project became quite complex which meant that Peter needed to take responsibility of becoming the Project Manager too. His ability to stay calm throughout the process and his ability to be adaptable to change meant that he was a great Project Manager for this project and one that coped with every challenge that was sent his way.

Peter’s communication was constant throughout the process; he listened to requirements, adhered to the historical/character guidelines of the Mount Victoria Association and the City Council and always provided us with alternatives and suggestions for how things could be done differently or better. His workmanship and attention to detail were second to none and exceeded all of our expectations. Peter’s team of professional builders understood the level of perfection Peter demands and worked well to facilitate the whole project. The outcome was better than we had hoped for and we would not hesitate in recommending him and Carras & Co for building and project management services.”

Capital View Motor Inn Refurbishment

Classy and modern; a new look for Capital View Motor Inn. Refurbishment completed by Carras & Co. Stripped to the bones, re-wired and re-lined, these rooms with brand new bathrooms and kitchens are like new!

Fresh New Street View

Carras & Co were excited to create a fresh new street view for this client in Newtown, plus a matching balustrade for their front porch. The client provided some photos of their fence styling inspo and we worked closely with her to recreate the look she envisaged. The end result was a gorgeous cream, character fence which really complimented the home. The client was very pleased with the result; see some before and after photos below.

“From my experience working with builders can at time be fraught with difficulties. A strange opening line but when thinking about my last building project, this one was a breeze.

What I started with in my head was exactly what I ended up with (plus some enhancements); this has not always been my experience with building work. One of the skills that Peter brought to the project was the way in which he could translate the look that I wanted into the finished design and product. Peter worked closely with me at each stage of the build and gave me advice, options and what would happen if I did this or that. Peter has a wonderful “eye” coupled with excellent workmanship. I was surprised at the number of random people who stopped me on the street to comment on the work, how wonderful it looked and how well it kept in line with the house and the neighbourhood. Three people actually came and knocked on my door to ask me who my builder was; a testament in itself. I have no hesitation in recommending Peter for any building work you need done and I really appreciated the advice and support given during the build. ”
